Injury to one officer reminds that we are all family
Chaplain Bob Montelongo and I bumped into PO Eirberto Claudio a few weeks ago on a midnight 10-1 call for an- other officer se- riously injured
in an incident at Grand and Western avenues. Thanks be to God, the injured officer will be OK.
The experience was a profound reminder of the famil- ial relationship we enjoy, where officers like Eirberto race into harm’s way to assure the well-being of their brothers and sisters. You’ll notice in the picture that
from the Greek Orthodox tradition join us to present on their faith. In the past, we’ve had members of the Jewish and Mus- lim traditions as well. This month, we’ll talk about the Com- munity of Saints over beer and pizza.
Speaking of saints, our most recent mint of challenge coins honors our fallen officers. Please check them out online by clicking the “merchan- dise” link at www.chica-

It was wonderful to see the vast crowd gathered at
last month’s annual Candlelight Vigil at Gold Star Families Memorial and Park! There, we paid tribute to the 578 souls whose names are inscribed on the Memorial Wall. May they
rest in peace!

burn, but it takes years to write.
4. All things in life are temporary. If they are going well,
enjoy them as they will not last forever. If they are go-
ing wrong, don’t worry, they won’t last long either.
5. Old friends are gold! New friends are diamonds! If you get a diamond, don’t forget the gold! To hold a dia-
mond, you always need a base of gold!
6. Often when we lose hope and think this is the end,
G~d smiles from above and says, “Relax, sweetheart,
it’s just a bend, not the end!”
7. When G~d solves your problems, you have faith in His
abilities. When G~d doesn’t solve your problems, He
has faith in your abilities.

worse than losing your eyesight?” G~d replied, “Yes,

Recent blue Masses have been nicely attended, and there are a few more planned this month. Uni- forms or dress blues are encouraged but certainly not

9. When you pray for others, G~d listens to you and
blesses them. When you are safe and happy, remem-
ber that someone has prayed for you.

takes away today’s peace.
Putting the dash in G~d
Please understand, I do not spell out the name of G~d out of respect. Spelling out the name, and then throwing it in the trash, would be a desecration of His name, so I put in the dash. This is a religious custom I follow and please don’t be offended. Thanks for understanding. If you would like to dis- cuss it further, please don’t hesitate to drop me a line or give me a call.
On behalf of all your chaplains, may G~d bless you and keep you safe. d
Compliments of your police chaplain Rabbi Moshe Wolf. He can be reached at 773-463-4780 or moshewolf@hotmail.com.
