25th District lets its hair down for children’s cancer
n BY ERIKA WURST
Not only did District 25 officers raise thou- sands of dollars to combat children’s cancer during the recent St. Baldrick’s event, but the crew enticed four women to donate their hair to charity by cutting off at least eight inches of their long locks.
The event was held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on March 30 at District headquarters where fun and philanthropy combined. The group raised more than $3,500, and at least 32 inch- es of hair was donated to the “Children with Hair Loss” charity.
“Children’s cancer is a horrible thing and anything we can do to help is great,” said District 25 Officer Michael Miedona. “Why not show the empathetic side of police offi- cers?”
That’s what Miedona and his colleagues have done for eight years now. The district also garnered the attention of Chicago’s Mix 101.9 FM Road Crew, who joined the event.
A city-wide St. Baldrick’s event will be held on April 22 at the Chicago Police Academy. d
Officer Tom Cotter took the first shave at the St. Bal- drick’s event in the 25th District.
Tori from the Mix 101.9 FM Road Crew was one of four women who donated eight or more inches of hair.
