   15th District Tree Lighting
One of the most recognizable signs of the season is, of course, a tree filled with lights and ornaments. Members of the 15th District’s CAPS office marched along Madison Street on Dec. 7 to promote unity throughout the city and spread holiday cheer as part of the area’s annual Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting Festival.
The parade kicked off at Madison and Cicero, ending at the 15th District headquarters, where the officers were joined by a plethora of participants, including: the Austin Chamber of Commerce; students from Chicago Public Schools; the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office; Aldermen Emma Mitts, Chris Taliaferro and Jason Ervin; the Chicago Children’s Choir; and lo- cal community organizations.
There were gifts, raffles and giveaways during the event, and Santa even reported for duty with the CPD’s Mounted Unit es- corting the department’s version of a sleigh along the way.
Lighting things up in the 11th
The 11th District joined the fun with a similar event when it held its inaugural Holiday Tree Lighting and Parade on Dec. 15. The event did not disappoint, as children received teddy bears and goodie-filled stockings. They warmed up with hot cocoa while watching the district’s officers and community stakehold- ers march along Harrison Street.
The Garfield Park Chamber of Commerce, students from area Chicago Public Schools, Aldermen Emma Mitts, Michael Scott, Jason Ervin and Walter Burnett Jr., as well as other community organizations were all
in attendance to spread joy, unity and holiday cheer.
Santa, of course, also made an appearance, making the district’s first tree lighting one to remember.
