Praying for a better 2019
Good riddance, 2018! Between four line-of-du- ty deaths, natural deaths and suicides, we just closed a most painful year for the CPD.
safety and good health, and perhaps most importantly, lots of laughs!
The line-of-duty deaths included Com- mander Paul Bauer, killed downtown in February, and Officer Sam Jimenez, killed
in November at Mercy Hospital. And sadly,
last month, we added to their ranks of hero Officers Eduardo Marmolejo and Conrad Gary.
May all of them rest in peace.
The Police Chaplains Ministry printed thousands of me- morial cards for these brave men. You can download one from the link on our website https://www.chicagopcm.org/. Or, if you would like some sent to you, please call or email me using the contact information.
May 2019 be a better year: one of peace and prosperity,

On a side note, on behalf of all the chaplains, a very special thank you and pat on the back to each and every member of police and fire personnel who stayed at the scene through the night, came to the ME’s office and the the wakes and funeral services to show your support and give comfort to the families of these two heroes. Sometimes in life, there are no words to ease the pain and nothing we can do to change the circum- stances. Just “being there,” just your presence, provides com- fort and speaks volumes. There you stood on the tracks, at the District and at the funeral services, lining the hallways, lost in thought, broken-hearted with tears streaming down many of your faces. No words were spoken, and no words needed to be spoken. You were “just there,” and your presence meant more than words can say. Thank you and G-d bless you.
Best wishes to you and your loved ones for a very happy New Year. May 2019 be a year filled with joy, happiness and good health.
Should you ever need a shoulder to lean on or an ear to listen, or perhaps you have a good story to share, don’t hesitate to give us a call.
