On April 19, 2017, Offi-
cer Carmichael Lewis was
on his way to work when he heard several gunshots. He observed a vehicle hit the guardrail and a male fall to the ground. He then saw an offender with a gun in his hand flee toward Chinatown. Officer Lewis immediately sprang into action by calling 911 and following the offender. After a short time, Of- ficer Lewis spotted the offender, exited his vehicle and chased him through the yards.
Even though Officer Lewis fractured his right hand while climbing over fences, he apprehended and detained the offender for the assisting units. It was learned later the offender perished from his wounds.
The immediate actions of Officer Lewis helped remove a homicide offend- er from the streets of Chicago.
It is with great appreciation and pride that the Fraternal Order of Police Chicago Lodge 7 presents Officer Carmichael Lewis with the Distinguished Service Award. d
