Many golf outings each year benefit law enforcement, but few compare to what might become known as the best golf outing of them all: The 2017 Lodge 7 Family Auxiliary Golf Outing on June 21 at Bloomingdale Golf Club.
Angie Haynes, president of the Family Auxiliary, and Detective Ken Hauser, who represents the Pension Board, have been organizing this outing for six consecutive years. And they have seen the evidence of the event getting bigger and better.
“The number of people attending continues to rise as we go on each year,” Haynes proclaimed.
One major difference from past year is that this year’s event took place on one golf course instead of two. “People seemed to enjoy it a lot more on one course than two this year,” Haynes relayed.
Not only is this event a great opportunity for officers to
participate and have a great time, it’s also a fantastic way to honor the families the auxiliary supports. Each year, the Lodge 7 Auxiliary board awards scholarships to benefit the families of officers. In 2016, the auxiliary board gave out 15 scholarships for $500 each.
The golf outing generated much of the fundraising for the scholarships and other support for families. Haynes and her team sought out many organizations and busi- nesses to donate raffle prizes for the officers to bid on at the event. Some of the prizes included restaurant gift cards, Cubs and White Sox tickets, golf clubs and an Apple TV.
As the wife of a retired officer, she understands how im- portant this event is to those who truly need the assistance. Beyond the raffle prizes, the pig roast dinner or the fancy golf club lies the true meaning behind this event.
“Whether these police officers die in the line of duty or of natural causes they will never be forgotten,” Haynes de- clared in capturing the motivation behind the outing. d
