CPD of cers ‘Stuff the Squad’
From Bridgeport and Bronzeville to the South Loop and North Side, scores of Chicago Police Officers went shop- ping for a good cause on June 10 during the third annual “Stuff the Squad” event in partnership with Mariano’s.
At 13 store locations around the city, donations by shoppers were used to fill a paper grocery bag with staple food items, which were then given to local churches and food pantries to help the less fortunate. During the event, officers worked side-by-side with Mariano’s employees to pack the shopping bag, load them into carts – and even a large watermelon container – to move the food to waiting police vehicles.
The loaded-up squads were then driven to places such as Immaculate Conception Church in the 9th District, the Corner Stone Center food pantry in the 20th and St. Mat- thew’s Methodist Church in the 18th to deliver the goods.
Aside from the squad stuffing, children were treated to coloring books, police badges and, in Bronzeville, a visit with the mounted patrol officers. d
