ThirdVice President’s Report
Thanks to those who help us stay healthy
On Feb. 7, Chicago Lodge 7 hosted a health fair in conjunction with Knapp Medical Center. Even though the weather was not favorable, the staff from Knapp Medical Center were well prepared to take on the task. Seventy-eight of our members, both active and retired, took advantage of this comprehensive medical screening.
Included in the screening was a weigh-in, vitals, bloodwork, an EKG and a brief physical provided by Dr. Keith Knapp. By week’s end, Knapp Medical Center noti- fied our members with their respective results via a telephone call; a printed version of their results was then sent to the mem- bers in the mail. Members can take these results to their prima- ry care physician for evaluation. I would like to thank the staff of Knapp Medical Center, as well as the members who took ad-
vantage of this free program.
In case you were unable to make it to the Lodge that day, the
next Health Fairs will be held on Wednesday, April 11 in the 8th District Community Room (3420 W. 63rd St.) and Wednesday, July 25 in the 16th District Community Room (5151 N. Milwau- kee Ave.) from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Please come and take advantage of this screening, at no cost to you.
Gun Safety Days
The 2018 Gun Safety Days are scheduled for Wednesday, May 23 and Thursday, May 24 at the FOP Hall. Hours will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days. There will be several armorers here to inspect and clean your weapons (which must be unloaded). No appointments are necessary, but please limit your weapons
to three.
Remembering Commander Bauer
As you all know, we lost a true “cop’s cop” on Tuesday, Feb. 13. While the loss of Commander Paul Bauer is a tremendous one, with difficult shoes to fill, please take heart in how many people this man’s life was able to touch in a positive way. Whether you knew Commander Bauer or not, we can all take a page from his playbook and work on becoming not only better Police Officers, but also better human beings. May his legacy live on, and may he rest in peace.
Stay safe! d
