Recent- ly, outside the parish where I re- side in 014, I bumped into Offi- cer Juan Diaz keep-
ing the folks of my neighborhood safe.
Thanks to all of you
who do the very same,

TheBrotherhoodfortheFallenisagainhostingitsBlue Tie Gala, this year on Sept. 22 at the Rosemont Hyatt. Last year’s event sold out, so get your tickets soon.
A Blue Mass is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28 at
5:30 p.m. at St. Ita Parish, 5500 N. Broadway. While
you’re welcome to wear your uniform or dress blues,
you’re also most welcome to dress casually (and bring your family). This is a Catholic Mass but as always, all are wel- come.
Have you and your family been affected by suicide? A po- lice family resource group has been formed recently to pro- vide support to you and your family. It’s called STAR (Suicide Trauma and Recovery). The group meets monthly on the Southwest Side. If you’re interested in joining, please contact Chaplain Bob Montelongo at 773-459-5089 or Robert.Mon- telongo@ChicagoPolice.org.
A CPD Spouses’ Resource Group is also available. If your spouse would like to participate in this group, which meets Aug. 23 at the FOP Hall, please let me know and I’ll put you in

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior mo- tives. Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and sincere, people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway.
What you spend years creating, others could destroy over- night. Create anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, will often be forgotten.Do
touch with the group’s chairperson. Recently, someone asked me about the St. Jude Police League and its mission. I’m glad they did because it gave me the oppor- tunity to do some research on this worth-
while organization.
The group’s website, www.saintjudepo-
lice.org, provides its mission statement as follows: “The Saint Jude Police League is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the men and women of the Chicago Police Department and their families. The League provides support and assistance to the families of police officers in times of bereavement. The St. Jude wake ministry is available to members for comfort and support in times of crisis and sadness.”
Founded in 1932, the League is the oldest fraternal order associated with the Chicago Police Department. It was orig- inally inspired by St. Jude Thaddeus, globally recog- nized as the patron saint of hope. Every year in May, the League proudly hosts the St. Jude Police March, in which thousands of CPD members march in honor and memory of those who cannot: our deceased offi-
cers.
Very popular are St. Jude League windshield stickers,
available each April for a $7 donation. Also available through www.saintjudepolice.org are St. Jude T-shirts and challenge coins. Funds raised through the sale of these items support the wake visitation ministry and a host of charitable organi- zations.
May St. Jude intercede on behalf of our officers and fami- lies, and may God continue to bless you in your most noble work. d

good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it will never be
enough. Give your best anyway.
In the final analysis, it is between you and G-d. It was never
between you and them anyway.
On behalf of all your chaplains, may G-d bless you and keep you safe. Should you need a shoulder to lean on, an ear to lis- ten or perhaps you have some good humor to share, please don’t hesitate to give us a call. d
