While members and their spouses bask in the relaxing that is the foundation of the picnic, the kids enjoy carnival rides, arcade games and special contests like Limbo that Chicago Lodge 7 has provided. At the end of the day, what has trans- pired brings the FOP and CPD family closer together.
It is what led Rodgers to invite her sergeant, Roberta Steele, to join the family. Steele has witnessed the power such an event like the picnic can have on all officers.
“This is what they need,” she declared. “It promotes togeth- erness. It promotes camaraderie. And when something hap- pens in the street, we have this close-knit togetherness that makes it better, makes the bond stronger and makes the job easier.” d
The fun includes rides for members’ kids and a game of Limbo.
