More than a game
Enforcers leave it all on the field for each other, for charity in win over CFD

They pounded Gatorade, water and Red Bull to fight off the intense heat of a June afternoon better suited for be- ing poolside instead of on a football sideline.
They were knocked down, exhausted and injured, but never beaten.
And they lost their first- and second-string quarter- backs, only to be lifted up by a defense which surged to a spectacular finish.
In the end, the character of the CPD Enforcers football team led to a 37-24 win over the CFD Blaze in the annual First Responders Bowl and represented the spirit of what Chicago’s police officers are all about: overcoming adver- sity until the job is done, all in the name of fellow officers and others along the way.
“It’s the nature of the job. We support each other all the time,” Enforcers Head Coach Greg Zaragoza said after hoisting the city championship trophy. “We support our baseball team, the hockey team, whatever we can do to help develop that fraternal bond is important to us.”

Zaragoza also praised the sunbaked, police-favoring fans at Brother Rice High School who stuck it out until the end, even after the concession stands ran out of water at halftime and shade was hard to come by.
