Changing of the guard coming in 2018
The Illinois Legislature has adjourned for 2017. We have been tracking dozens of bills for the Chicago FOP, working well with the State FOP. No doubt, there will continue to be many new bills and issues to watch in 2018. We are working on several pieces of legislation for consideration in 2018; there will be more information on those items over the next few months.
As you know, 2018 is an election year. The entire Illinois House of Representatives is up for re-election, as well as one-third of the Senate and all of the state-wide elected officials. Obviously, there will be a big race for governor. In addition, with the retirement of Attor- ney General Lisa Madigan, there will be a robust campaign to succeed her. As we have discussed, more than 30 current legislators have announced their retirements. That is an un- usually high number. We are losing many good members who have, for a variety of reasons, decided to move on to the next
phase of their lives.
The political climate in the country and in Illinois will make
this upcoming election year a fascinating one. The primary election is set for March 20, 2018 and the general election will be on Nov. 6, 2018.
I hope you and your families have a safe and blessed holi- day season. Thank you for all of your service. d
