The Brotherhood for the Fallen (BFTF) knows how crucial it is to support the families of officers who make the ultimate sacrifice. That’s why on March 30, the BFTF Chicago Chapter will host its Pistol Challenge Fundraiser to bring officers, ci- vilians and chapter members together for an extraordinary cause.
“There’s a lot of Chicago officers who still don’t know about us,” explains Rick Caballero, who spearheaded the start of BFTF in 2009. “It’ll be good to get our name out there even more.”
Each year, the BFTF raises money to contribute to families in Chicago and across the country who have lost a loved one in the line of duty. The organization donated $2,000 to each family of the Chicago Police Officers who were lost in 2018. Caballero hopes that through events like the Pistol Challenge Fundraiser, the Brotherhood will continue to be able to sup- port families when they need it most.
“All the money goes back to the organization and goes to the families,” Caballero urges. “The more we make, the more mon- ey we give the families.”
The Pistol Challenge will be hosted by DAVAD Civilian De- fense at The Compound in Crete. Civilians and officers alike will get the chance to engage in competitive target practice un- der the supervision of two of the Chicago Police Department’s strongest shooters, Pete Milionis and Dan Lombard. Former CPD officer Milionis is an Army veteran who has also trained numerous SWAT teams throughout his career, and Lombard is known for his shooting skills throughout the CPD.
Participants will have the opportunity to try out multiple firearms on dozens of reactive and steel targets. The event will also include lunch and raffle prizes.
The BFTF has a mission to make sure all officers who make the ultimate sacrifice are not forgotten by providing support to the community and families affected, but the organization can’t do it alone. Chicago Police Officers and civilians will not want to miss out on this opportunity to give back, while com- peting for the top shooter prize.
