When Theresa McBeth became an 11th District CAPS officer in September 2018, she knew she wanted to introduce new events that would bring the com- munity together.
In October, officers from the 11th hosted a trunk-or-treat Halloween event. In November, they handed out Thanks- giving turkeys to families in need. It only seemed right that when February came around, McBeth and others in the dis- trict would host another event for offi- cers to show how much they love their community.
On Feb. 8, 11th District headquar- ters was covered with hearts as officers, children, high schoolers and other vol- unteers gathered for a Valentine’s card party. More than 20 attended the event at which officers and guests enjoyed an evening of pizza, crafts and lots of fun games.
“I felt like we had one big party for all ages,” said McBeth, who attended the
event with her son and granddaughter. Volunteers, chaperones and kids alike shared many laughs while making slime and playing freeze dance and musical chairs. When it came time to make Valen- tine’s Day cards, the children didn’t hesi- tate to share the love with their friends in
law enforcement.
“They really need to have more par-
ties like this where they can feel safe and have fun,” McBeth urged.
All attendees were given candy gift bags and left with unforgettable mem- ories of spending time with their neigh- borhood officers. For McBeth, who grew up in the district, the Valentine’s card party was just another great opportunity for officers to show the community how much they care.
“I live in this community. I was raised in this community,” she explains. “I came back to the community, and I just feel like we need to do more with them.”
The Valentine’s Day festivities weren’t limited to the 11th. On Feb. 14, officers from the 3rd District visited La Rabida
3rd District
11th District
Children’s Hospital and kids at a local school. Officers handed out plush toys to help make connections and show how much they care for some of the youngest members of the community.
