This summer, friends of law enforce- ment and officers across the country have been encouraged to wear their support on their sleeves as the Broth- erhood for the Fallen (BFTF) hosts its 2019 photo contest.
In June, BFTF Chicago and six oth- er chapters in major cities across the country launched a photo contest to spread support for the organization, which pledges to serve the communi- ties and family members of fallen offi- cers year-round.
BFTF founder and Chicago Police Officer Rick Caballero came up with the idea to connect all BFTF chapters through this social media photo cam- paign. It also doesn’t hurt that it helps BFTF raise some funds in the process.
“I wanted to show more of a Face- book presence for all [BFTF] chapters to get involved with,” Caballero shared. “It also keeps the funds going so we can do what we do.”
The contest is simple but the reward
is extravagant.
It takes three steps to participate:
• First, wear BFTF gear.
• Second, take a picture of your-
self wearing the gear in what- ever location you travel to this summer.
• Third, share the photo with the official BFTF Instagram account, Facebook page or email address.
All photos entered have the oppor- tunity to win tickets and accommoda- tions to the 2020 Blue Tie Gala.
Many photos have already been sub- mitted to BFTF in far-flung locations ranging from Ireland to Bosnia. Even Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwar- ber was captured wearing a BFTF polo shirt while leaving practice.
The BFTF inboxes are filling up, but it’s not too late to share a photo. The deadline for submissions is Sept. 8.
The winner of the 2019 photo con- test will be selected at this year’s BFTF Blue Tie Gala, taking place Sept. 28.
