Financial Secretary’s Report
New FOP books out now
Hello again, Chicago Police Officers. I hope you have received your FOP book by now. If you did not receive your FOP book, you can request one from your unit, watch rep or field rep. You can also purchase a spare book at the FOP store for your spouse or babysitter’s schedule. Please verify that the FOP office has your new mailing address if you have moved in the past year. The FOP does not receive from or share with the Department your personal updated information. The FOP books
were sent off to the printer at the beginning of December af- ter many hours of painstaking proofreading, calling to verify phone numbers and adding new and hopefully useful informa- tion provided by our members. I realize mistakes will be discov- ered even after our extensive verification process. Please make a note of any mistakes on page 160 of your FOP book and return this page to the Lodge via police mail. We will ensure that any mistakes are corrected in future print runs.
Once the printing of the FOP books has been completed, the printer is tasked with sending them out via the U.S. Postal Ser- vice. The FOP does not control the mail. I have personally heard of retired officers who reside in another state receiving their
FOP books before those of us living in the city.
Please familiarize yourselves with the printed material in-
side the FOP book, not just the calendar and streets guide. The inside back cover contains an area to document the OCIC on scene who orders you to give a statement during an OIS (of- ficer-involved shooting). Procedures for filing and resolving grievances, your responsibilities and the Lodge’s, suspension grievances, medical grievances and psychological grievances can be found on pages 141 and 142 of the FOP book. Proce- dures for updating personnel records, which include Personnel Change Notice, Name Change and Health Benefits Changes, can be found on page 143, Legal Defense instructions on page 148, and the Disclaimers for a Shooting Order Request (to 1st Supervisor On Scene), To/From for a TRR and a Disclaimer for To/From Reports on page 149. A Safety Complaint can be found on page 150, and the Instructions for Preparation of Safety Complaint for Unit Representatives are on page 151. Lastly, for you hard-chargers and headhunters, Required Warnings to Be Given Prior to Interrogation (Miranda Warnings) can be found on page 157.
Officers, we thank you for your assistance with the FOP book. May 2021 be a better year for us all. Stay safe.
