President’s Letter
Dear fellow SDP members,
2019 is already well underway with many new and exciting things coming your way. The New Year is always a time to reflect, regroup and maybe even re- invent yourself. Setting new goals pushes us forward and gives us direction and new energy, leading to fresh, creative ideas. Have you set new goals for 2019?
There are many places to gather inspiration and one is through membership in SDP. Looking through The Decorative Painter, did you notice the new, fresh, clean look? I hope you are enjoying the magazine, not only for the projects, but for the inspiration and educational information it contains. Another way to
gather inspiration is joining a chapter and taking classes both in person and online. Have you checked out the SDP Online Video Library? New videos are added monthly by some of your favorite artists, and you can paint with them in the comfort of your own home for free – yes, free – as they are a benefit of your SDP membership. Check them out! Don’t forget to take advantage of member discounts, which help offset the cost of your dues.
Another way is to attend a Conference. It’s always a time of inspiration for me just being around other creatives. So...now is the time to make plans for attending Party in the Heartland in Wichita, May 13-18, 2019, where you’ll have an opportunity to paint with your favorite teachers, meet new friends and catch up with old friends that you may see only once a year at Conference. It’s a very special time! We have five Special Events planned especially for you. More information can be found in the insert included with your magazine. View projects online, download the catalog or request a printed copy from Amazon. All classes and the Expo will be held at the Hyatt so make your reservations now. And...you won’t want to miss the ribbon cutting at the After Party on Saturday evening for the Grand Opening of our museum showcasing art pieces acquired from the National Museum in Atlanta.
It has been a full year. We’ve experienced many challenges and changes
in our efforts to ensure that SDP moves forward. The future is bright, and you can be a part of it. This issue includes information on candidates who are running for office. Please review the information and if you can’t attend the annual meeting at Conference, be sure to mail in your absentee ballot by March 29, OR, for the first time ever, you can watch the annual meeting on Facebook and cast your vote online. This is your opportunity to have a voice in the future of your Society!
Wishing you the best in all your creative endeavors in 2019. Sincerely,
Linda Sharp cda
SDP President, 2018-19
