Point your little trick-or-treaters in the right di- rection for a fun and festive Halloween. There’s nothing scary about this little witch, the grin-
ning ghost and all their jack-o’-lantern friends or the mixed media background treatment that adds so much character to this design. Be sure to watch the Step-by- Step video to get tips and directions on how to create your own adorable arrow design!
PREPARATION
Untie the knot at one end of the jute hanger and remove it from the arrow. Tear the text tissue paper into a few pieces or leave it in one piece; the choice is yours. Apply a coat of the DecoArt Decou-Page Medium Matte to the top of the arrow and then lay the tissue paper on top and smooth
slightly. It’s fine if you get wrinkles. Apply another coat of DecoArt Decou-Page Medium Matte on top of the tissue. When this is dry (you can speed the process with a craft heat gun or hair dryer) use the emery board or small sander to sand the excess tissue from around the edges. Apply the basic pattern for the pump- kins, witch, and ghost. Use a dark graphite paper so you will be able to see the pattern more easily. Refer to the Step-by-Step on page
83 throughout the project.
BACKGROUND
Using the brown ink pad and your background stamps, randomly stamp around and over the design area. This will add interest to the background. With 3⁄4" shader float a well-blended Burnt Umber on the background around the outside edges of the arrow and around the design it- self. Using the punchinello as a stencil, add clusters of dots to the background with Burnt Umber.
