A BOLD PURPOSE
One sunny morning in the fall of 2017, the principals of Bergkamp met off-site for a strategic planning session. Their goal was to establish a bold new direction for the company.
Whether by chance or by destiny, the meeting was held at the Meridian Center in Newton, KS, a place dedicated to the Meridian Highway, the country’s first north-south highway connecting Canada to Mexico.
The highway dates to 1911 during the early years of the automobile era. It was the vision of a prominent Newton citizen and Kansas attorney, John C. Nicholson. When completed, it would run along the 6th Principle Meridian, eventually becoming US 81.
It was during this meeting that Scott Bergkamp raised the question: Why is it that we do what we do?
Scott understood the importance of roads to society, and believed in Bergkamp’s ability to find new ways of providing a better on-the-road experience for those who travel them. He suggested the real purpose of Bergkamp is far greater than one of building equipment. It is, in fact, to make lives better.
At Bergkamp, the way we make lives better is to make roads better.
