Dear SDP Friends,
As I begin my term as president of this great organization, I wish to thank each of you for your membership, your passion for SDP, and your willingness to continue to make SDP what it is and what it can be. The staff, the board of directors, and I will strive to be here for you, answer your questions, and be your leaders. My goal during this term of office is to increase membership. Membership is the lifeblood of SDP. Each new member helps ensure our future ...
a future that will continue to “stimulate worldwide interest in and appreciation for decorative painting.”
“People can be divided into three groups— Those who make things happen;
Those who watch things happen;
And those who wonder what happened.”
—John W. Newbern (1876–1936)
Which group do you fall into? Most of us would like to be in the first group, but that takes some effort. As each of you evaluates your membership in SDP, remember that it takes many from the group that makes things happen to succeed. If each of us recruit only one new member we would double our membership in a flash. Those who would stand by and watch and wonder what happened might even get the message and join in to make this all happen. New members could see the rewards and personal joy that comes from an organization like the Society of Decorative Painters.
The board and I are listening to you as members. The more ideas and suggestions that are brought forward, the better chance we have to solve issues or prevent situations from getting out of hand. I believe the board would fall into the group that makes things happen. I value all members and appreciate your efforts to build a better Society.
The number of responses I received from my request to serve on SDP committees was remarkable. If I did not answer your response, I apologize. I tried very hard to respond to all of them. You are amazing members who are passionate about this organization, and very willing to volunteer your time and talents to further the cause.
Our 2014 SDP Conference in San Diego was very successful. The venue was ideal, the food always available, the accommodations top-notch, the weather perfect, and the classes great. If you missed this experience, please plan to join us in 2015. We are returning to Pheasant Run in St. Charles (near Chicago) for Conference 2015. This venue served us very well, is reasonably priced for members, and is relatively centrally located in the country. The road construction has been completed which will make outside shopping and dining much easier to secure. I am looking forward to great classes, wonderful teachers, very special events, and renewing friendships. The board and staff are already very busy making this Conference the best ever. I do certainly hope you will consider joining us.
Please choose your group and work as best as you can to make things happen. Paint with a Happy Heart!!!
