gundy Mix). Let dry. Shade along the rows of kernels (be- low this shadow), with a narrow glaze of middle-value Purple Mix. Outline some of the kernels with dark-value Purple Mix and soften the outlines.
Use the script liner to add corn silk to the outside edges of the cobs (over the white background) with the warm middle-value colors in your palette. Use the cool dark-value colors in the palette to add a few strings of silk over the kernels. Also paint corn silk on the husks and onto the white background around them.
Finish the gingham ribbon by lifting a few highlights. Let dry. Use the script liner to add fabric strings with mid- dle-value Ultramarine Blue. Let dry. Also lift paint from the upper-left area of the center corncob to create a highlight. The kernels in this area will look lighter and non-distinct.
COLORS AND COLOR MIXES
Paint the shadow with a mix of middle-value Purple Mix+Ultramarine Blue. Add tints of Quinacridone Rose, Burgundy Mix, and Green-Blue Mix while the paint is still wet. If desired, glaze some of the Purple Mix into the corn- husks that are next to the shadow.
FINISHING
The size of the frame and matting is a personal pref- erence. The pattern extends beyond my matting for your convenience. I chose to crop the larger shadow by cutting a smaller window in the mats, which tightens the focal point around the corn. Use your artistic license to frame the painting so it is pleasing to you.
