114 The Decorative Painter • ISSUE NO. 2, 2014
For the past several years I have focused on painting florals in the photo-realism style (contemporary real- ism) from photographs I have taken. Nothing makes me
happier than to make a photo come to life under my brush. This lily was in a bouquet that my daughter sent to me. I loved the bouquet’s interesting mix of colors, but this lily was truly a standout. Even though I painted only this one flower and its bud, you can see hints of the other flowers in the bouquet in the painterly-style background. The water droplets were not in the original photo, but I think they add just the right amount of sparkle.
