Roses bring elegance and beauty to everything. There are so many varieties and color choices available that artists never lack form and composition op-
tions. Mastering the creation of rose petals in painting is a treasured discipline. As you paint, remember that patience and practice lead to wondrous success.
PREPARATION
Lightly sand the entire box, using tack cloth to wipe away sanding debris. Next, seal the box with DecoArt Multi-Purpose Sealer, and then allow it to dry completely. Lightly sand the box again and wipe with tack cloth.
BACKGROUND
Using the 1" wash brush, basecoat the entire lid with Grey Sky.
Use a drafting compass or measuring tool of your choice to draw the lines for the thin gold border and the wider green border. Measure in 13⁄4" (4.4cm) from all four edges of the lid. Using a pencil, lightly draw the square that these measurements create. Next, measure in 11⁄4" (3.2cm) from all edges of the lid, and then lightly pencil in the square that this creates. Using Emperor’s Gold on the no. 6 shader, paint the thin inner border. Paint the outer green border according to the steps below.
