President’s Letter
Deja Vu!
Ten years ago, I was starting my first term as SDP President and we were getting ready to celebrate our Ruby Anniversary, 40 years of SDP. Now 10 years later, there have been many changes to the landscape of SDP, and we are gearing up to celebrate our Golden Anniversary, 50 years of SDP.
We are working to have little things each month, be it sharing history, or “do you remember?” We are also planning a couple of larger events. The first, happening in January 2022, is a retreat in Fredericksburg, Texas, for three days of
painting with three fantastic teachers. Then we have our 50th Anniversary Celebration Event, “Cheers to 50 years!” in August 2022 at The Orleans in Las Vegas. We will have classes and exhibits and fun events planned. Anyone interested in teaching can submit projects by the deadline of October 1, 2021, for consideration. Forms and information are on the website under the 50th Anniversary tab.
With so many restrictions in the last year and many plans being cancelled by us and you, we found a light at the end of the tunnel. We started the Decorative Painters Academy, where you can take a class with some
of your favorite teachers. We also now have our Decorative Painters Marketplace where business members can share their products so you
can shop right from your easy chair–in your pajamas, if you wish. If you are a teacher and have a website for your packets, etc., consider upgrading your membership to a business membership to take advantage of this perk. If you would like the opportunity to teach in the Decorative Painters Academy, contact me and we can talk.
We also continue to share monthly “What’s Happening at SDP.” This is just a quick update of things that are keeping us busy. We continue with the Facebook page SDP: An Artful Connection, where there are regular posts and members sharing projects they have done or questions. This past year a new page was created SDP: Chapter Gathering. If you are not part of one or both pages, be sure to request to join so you can be part of the community.
This is the time of the year we have our Early Bird membership campaign going on. Renew your membership before September 1 and get four free e-packets. Have a friend who is no longer a member? Talk to them about joining again and joining you in our 50th Anniversary Celebrations and they, too, will get the packets.
