President’s letter
 Dear fellow SDP members,
Welcome to the New Year and
Issue #1 of the 2016 The Decorative Painter. Each year, we get the opportunity to start on a clean slate. Newly elected leaders bring original ideas to their Chapters. New class projects, workshops and seminars surface and spark new interests in other mediums and styles. We welcome new members to our tightknit community, and find excitement as we see everything through their fresh eyes.
Even though it’s February, it’s not too late to set goals to help you grow
in your areas of interest. Keep this year’s Conference theme – An Artful Journey – in mind. Always ask yourself, “How can I enhance my journey as an artist?”
Looking to get more involved in your Chapter? Ask your Chapter leaders if you can organize a painting party or fundraising event. Interested in taking your skills to the next level? Explore our Certification Program levels or Teacher Development Program. Want to meet more people who share your interests? Register for the SDP International Conference & Expo this June in San Diego and interact with your peers through classes and membership events.
Inside these pages, you will discover 10 projects that use either traditional oil and acrylic paints or newer mediums including Etchall® etching crème, and watercolors. Try them all! Also, please read the important Society Updates, including a proposed Bylaws change on page 86 and nominees for the 2016-2017 Board of Directors on page 85, both of which will be voted on at the Annual Meeting taking place during the SDP International Conference & Expo.
I wish you the best in kicking off your “Artful Journey” this year on the right foot!
Sincerely,
Wendy Watson
SDP President, 2015-2016
