LET’S PAINT
STAGES ONE AND TWO
Prepare the surface, transfer pattern and mix all paint mixes and values.
CALLI
Refer to the maps on page 78, the Step-by-Step on page 77 and the Painting Tips on page 81.
SECTION A
Refer to Map 2 for the painting order. Start with Section A.
STEP 1: Lay in the values using a flat brush (see Map 3). STEP 2: Using 1⁄8" filbert lightly blend with slightly curved stroke in one direction (refer to Blending Values Tip) and then reverse (refer to Rake Tip). Add additional darks and accents as indicated on Map 5 and rake again. STEP 3: Using the 6/0 liner brush paint the Red Edging color along the rim. This is a very fine line so don’t make it too wide or heavy. Using the 1⁄8" rake, pull in the direction as indicated on Map 4. Reverse the pulling to bring the red back toward the rim. You do not want it to cover the entire section. Repeat if necessary.
STEP 5: Place Red Edging color using 6/0 short liner along the edge of the flower top rim. With 1⁄8" rake pull the line in the direction indicated on Map 4. Pull long strokes, wiping on Simply Tacky each time. Reverse the strokes pulling the lines back toward the edge. Repeat as necessary until you are happy with the results. Soften lightly with the 1⁄4" rake.
SECTIONS C AND D
STEP 1: Lay in the values in Section C and then Section D according to Map 3. Follow Blending Values Tip. STEP 2: Using 1⁄8" rake pull the blended paint in the di- rection as indicated on Map 4. Reverse the pulling and repeat until values are blended but still distinct. Refer to Map 5 to strengthen values.
STEP 3: While paint is still wet, using the 2/0 liner with Dark Green place lines as shown on Map 6. Do not thin paint.
STEP 4: Soften with 1⁄4" rake. Pull one direction then re- verse until lines are visible but slightly softened.
STEP 5: Add more highlight as needed and soften with 1⁄4" rake.
STEM
STEP 1: Basecoat according to Map 3.
STEP 2: Blend, following the Blending Values Tip. Add more lights and darks as necessary.
STEP 3: Continue to add accents and lights until you are happy with the color changes. Make sure that your values have created highs and lows and movement. Let dry.
STAGE THREE
Referring to Map 5 once again add more lights and darks
SECTION B
STEP 1: Apply all values as indicated on Map 3.
STEP 2: Blend with 1⁄8" rake following Map 4 (refer to Blending Values Tip). Continue until values are blended but you can still see the colors. Reapply values if they dis- appeared in blending.
STEP 3: Add additional darks and accents as indicated on Map 5. Using a 1⁄4" rake brush blend to soften.
STEP 4: With 2/0 liner add highlight on pointed end of flower. Blend carefully to soften.
