President’s Letter
 Dear fellow SDP members,
As we near the end of 2016, I want to reflect on the events of the past year, and the events for the year to come.
This year, we added new benefits
to increase the value of your membership. These include: the Online Video Library, an educational resource from the Education Committee consisting of everything from one- minute tip videos to complete lessons; HotelStorm, a partnership that gives you exclusive discounts on hotels; and Interactive Artist Magazine, another partnership that gives you discounted access to the online magazine’s projects, articles and more.
Also, many of us took “An Artful Journey” to the 44th Annual SDP
International Conference & Expo in San Diego – one of our best events.
We had a great time painting, shopping, and catching up with new and old friends. Twenty-four of our members achieved their personal goal of obtaining Certification. Also, we had great conversations with chapters on member recruitment and engagement, and what resources they need to grow.
Shortly after Conference, our staff moved to our new headquarters located in downtown Wichita – a move that provides them and visitors with improved working conditions and better connections to the local art district. The International Museum of the Society of Decorative Painters moved with us, enabling us to continue to preserve and showcase important works from our members and international painting community.
For 2017, we are committed to growing and increasing membership
morale. We are developing a Chapter Toolkit to deliver those resources our chapters told us they need to evolve. We are making “Oceans of Color,” the 45th anniversary of our Annual SDP International Conference & Expo, more exciting and more affordable for members to attend. Most of all, we are forming new partnerships to give you more benefits for the dues you pay.
The year 2016 an was incredible year, and 2017 is looking like it will be an even better one for our Society.
On behalf of the SDP Board of Directors and staff, I wish you a joyous holiday season and end of the year. We are looking forward to painting and growing with you in many ways in 2017.
Sincerely,
Kathy Swigon cda
SDP President, 2016-2017
