This still life is painted in a realistic style with different surface textures of fruits, delicate lace, and smooth surfaces of a ceramic plate and glass. Enjoy painting
this beautiful still life.
PREPARATION
Basecoat the entire surface using a large flat brush with Dove Grey. Let this dry. Apply a second basecoat with Dove Grey. While the second basecoat is wet, use a sponge roller to create an eggshell finish. Let this dry. Apply one basecoat ap- proximately seven-eighths of an inch (2 cm) from the outside, using a sponge roller with acrylics Dove Grey+Asphaltum (1:1). Apply around the border in a loose manner creating an uneven edge.
LET’S PAINT
BACKGROUND
With reference to Value Placement Map 1 on page 56 and Background Step 1 on page 53, paint a first coat of the Back- ground color mix. Using the no. 12 filbert, block in values as shown on the Value Placement Map. Refer to page 54 for the Color Mixes. Begin painting by completing the background and foreground as indicated. With reference to Background Step 2, blend the two values and, using the 3⁄4" mop, make natural gradation.
