President’s Letter
Dear SDP friends,
As I begin my second term as president, I wish to thank each of you for your membership, your passion and your willingness to continue to make SDP what it is and what it can be. The staff, the board of directors, and I will strive to be here for you, answer your questions, and be your leaders. My goal during this term of office is to increase membership and raise awareness of our great art. MembershipisthelifebloodofSDP,andawareness is the spirit. As individuals, we share our passion and as an organization, we share the greater passion with more and more artists. Each new member helps ensure our future – a future that will continue to “stimulate worldwide interest in and appreciation for decorative painting.”
People can be divided into three groups: –Those who make things happen, –Those who watch things happen,
–And those who wonder what happened.
–John Newborn
Which group are you in? Most of us would like to be in the first group, but that takes some effort. As each of you evaluates your membership in SDP, remember it takes many from the group to have success. If each of us would recruit only ONE new member, that would double our membership in a flash – two new members would be even better! Those who would stand by and watch and wonder what happened might even get the message and join in to make this all happen. They could see the rewards and personal joy that comes from an organization like the Society of Decorative Painters.
The board and I are listening to you as members. The more ideas and suggestions that are brought forward, the better chance to make a stronger organization, solve issues or prevent situations from getting out of hand. I believe the board would fall into the group that makes things happen. I value all members and appreciate your efforts to build a better Society. Please choose your group and work as best you can to make things happen.
We are embarking on a new course as far as the Conference is concerned. We are currently making plans to have regional retreats with fewer attendees, more individual attention, and in-depth instruction. The Certification Awareness seminar to be held November 8-11, 2019, in Wichita is nearly filled. If you attend, you will be able to study (almost one-on-one with Sue Pruett mda) and use the certification level of your choice to study and paint. The line drawings are from past certification years. Call the office at (316) 269-9300 for more information and to register. What a GREAT learning opportunity!
Paint with a Happy Heart!
