President’s lette
Dear my fellow SDP members, Welcome to the third edition of
this year’s The Decorative Painter!
I am thrilled to write to you in my first magazine letter as your new President. I love SDP and have been an active member for nearly 30 years. I have seen the diligence and dedication of the recent Boards you elected and assure you that I will do my best to continue that work.
Do you love SDP? Do you believe in its mission to stimulate worldwide interest in and appreciation for
decorative painting? Do you believe SDP can appeal to the next generation of painters without change? I believe that our Society needs a lot of new in its near future. New people. New ideas. New programs. Renewed energy. This type of progress will fuel SDP’s longevity and prosperity.
I know change can be hard to welcome. It’s human nature to be comfortable with what’s familiar. Some changes may be difficult, but some will be exciting and create new opportunities for the membership. Just remember – our mission will never change.
For now, I invite you to enjoy this issue of The Decorative Painter. Inside you will find the Certification Showcase, the revival of the Skill Builder section, inspiring projects from your peers and instructions on how to complete a readership survey to provide your suggestions for future editions.
I love SDP and cannot wait to take An Artful Journey with you this year!
Sincerely,
Wendy Watson
President, Society of Decorative Painters
MISSION
To stimulate worldwide interest in and appreciation for decorative painting; to recognize the diversity of and excellence in the art form; and to serve as the educational resource center for all aspects of decorative painting.
