The arts are a beloved component of Bayview’s mission. Community art, placemaking and cultural programming elevate the voices of the people who live here, increase their connection to each other and the neighborhood and foster a deeper sense of ownership and pride when surrounded by art and community spaces they helped create. Community focused artmaking and placemaking help overcome the barriers of culture, language and generation.
Completed in September 2017, La Mariposa de la Vida is a 19-foot-tall exterior mosaic mural that symbolizes and celebrates the Bayview community. Created by more than 100 Bayview residents and facilitated by local mosaic artist Marcia Yapp, its themes include migration, transformation, family, culture, community, protection, education, growth and wisdom.
