Kelly said that Taylor’s family had trepidations about whether Taylor would be accepted by people her age.
Thanks in large part to sports and a great community, those worries were put to ease.
For Taylor and others dealing with sensorineural hearing loss, there is no cure for the condition. That’s why Taylor intends to use the same dedication she has in sports toward maintaining her current levels of hearing.
“It can never get better, but it can definitely get worse if I don’t do what I’m supposed to, like wear my hearing aids and go to check-ups and make sure my hearing is stable,” she said.
But Taylor is intent on keeping her hearing loss at bay while competing in sports and navigating school.
She will soon begin her high school career. With those four years on the horizon, Taylor said she hopes to earn a softball scholarship at a major Division I program.
As for her off-field plans, Taylor wants to help others in her position one day.
“I want to do something in the health field,” she said. “I think I want to be an audiologist who does hearing aids since I have experience with it.”

At a young age, Saxon was diagnosed with bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. Despite some challenges that came with the diagnosis, she has developed into a top athlete.
