LETTER TO STUDENT
Here you are I I get it it it High school is is nearly over over and – – speaking from experience having worked with students your age for over over 30 years – – I I can let you you know that the itch to to to to move on on on to to to to something new is is is only going going to to to to to get stronger You’re going going to to to to to be be tired fed-up and and listless You’ll also be be as as exalted and and proud as as as as as as all all of the hard work you’ve done throughout high school will allow you you you to to to to to feel feel And you you you deserve to to to feel feel as as as as as as happy and and accomplished as as as as as as possible possible possible on on that day as as as as as as possible possible possible and and as as as as as as eager to to to start the next stage as as possible Burnout is is is real and and and it it it comes at at an an an an inopportune time But right now is is is the the opportunity to to dig in in a a a a a a a a a a a little deeper and and and and make strong choices that that will add to to to the the level of of joy and and and and accomplishment you you you feel come come graduation time Come fall of of that that year you’ll want to to be as as eager and and and hopeful about your college future as possible That’s where I come come in Your parents may may have have certain expectations about about where you’ll attend school and you you may may be eager to to follow in in in their footsteps or or feel apprehensive or or have have have mixed emotions about about doing so You might be be the the the the the first of of your your family to to to attend college and and along with the the the the the pride your your parents have have for you you you you you there may may be be no no small amount of of pressure to to achieve highly and and and meet their expectations They might want want East Coast Coast and and and you you you you may may want want West Coast Coast What I can let let you you you you know is is is that every emotion you you feel during this process is is quite natural and and completely okay I’ve I’ve seen seen athletes burned out by by their their their dedication to their their their sport at at at at the the the the end of a a a a a a a a a a a long high school career marred by by injuries and setbacks despite their their their their many great achievements I’ve I’ve seen seen students with an an an an an an eye towards medicine make drastic shifts to to to the the the the arts much to to to the the the the chagrin of their their parents parents But through my coaching and and and and an an an an an an open loving and and and and honest communication between students students and and and and parents parents I have seen resolutions that left all parties satisfied and and and and students students poised to do incredible things My advice from the the very beginning of of this this journey is is is to be be as as honest as as possible about what
your your your desires for for this this experience are are Not the the expectations of of your your your parents your your your friends teachers mentors or or or or or anyone else You The The Student The The one one who will be getting up for for an an an an 8 a a a a a a a a a a a a a a m m core class What is it that that you you you want want to to to to spend the next four years of your life dedicated to to to to and where do you you you want that that to be?
Good luck vi
