8. PUBLIC COMPLAINTS/INCIDENT RECORDING
Public Complaints
Any complaints to the Forest Service or any public agency regarding SVHS operations should be forwarded to the SVHS office. SVHS will hold a guides meeting, with a SVHS manager or owner present, to discuss and attempt to resolve complaints operationally when possible. Information regarding the complaint and the proposed resolution of the complaint should be documented by the guide and/or lead guide in the field on that day and attached to the PM Observation Form. If requested, a SVHS owner and/or a SVHS representative will meet at a convenient location with the involved parties and attempt to resolve the complaint.
Incident Reporting
Any accident involving guests or any incident requiring emergency response will be documented and debriefed by the staff. The Forest Service will be notified in all cases. With any guest injury, an accident report must be completed and sent to the insurance company. The American Avalanche Association/Forest Service National Avalanche Center Incident Report Form will be completed when an avalanche causes a fatality, injury, property damage in excess of $5000, or when the incident has an educational value. Any aircraft incident will be reported first to the helicopter operator. The helicopter operator has the responsibility to report to the FAA. Information to be disseminated to the media will be cleared by the President or Marketing Director. A copy of the file will be kept at SVHS Headquarters. Every effort should be made to learn as much as possible from an incident. Procedures and policies may be changed after an incident occurs and debriefed. The United States Heli-ski Association and other industry professionals may be notified if there are valuable lessons to be learned.
