  Guide Experience and Training
SVHS conducts annual guide training that may include but is not limited to selected items listed below. Cooperative rescue response training with Sun Valley Ski Patrol and other rescue organizations may also be conducted. All guides have experience or receive ongoing training in these responsibilities, methods and techniques. Increased proficiency is a prerequisite to advancing in guide classification. Also see below for minimum guide pack contents.

Helicopter safety awareness / procedures. Guest briefing procedures / delivery. Glacier travel procedures.
Safe skiing techniques / procedures.
Ski run selection strategies.
Backcountry route finding / terrain analysis.
Group management / control.
Standard first aid / CPR procedures.
Rescue resources / equipment.
Rescue / evacuation procedures.
Snow stability evaluation / forecasting.
Weather data / forecasting.
Field observations / recording systems.
Completion of daily work reports.
Incident documentation.
Radio communications system / protocol.
Ski technique demonstrations / instruction.
Backcountry user observations / conflict mitigation. Wildlife observations / conflict mitigation.
Knowledge of the Operations Plan.
Guide responsibilities.
Alpine / sub-alpine hazard awareness.
Avalanche route / explosives protocol
Hospitality and customer service
Orientation and field training sessions within permit area.
