Charting the Future of Health:
From Our
Research Hubs
to the World
Prof. Amos Katz, Dean Faculty of Health Sciences Ben-Gurion University
of the Negev
Situated in Beer-Sheva, the center of Israel’s southern Negev region and a microcosm of Israeli society, the Faculty of Health Sciences (FOHS) at Ben- Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) has consistently demonstrated its unique and pioneering approach to medical research and training. From its very beginning, the FOHS has been dedicated to excellence and continues to be guided by an “in service” mission based on the needs of the Negev and the State of Israel, as well as global health issues.
Recently, the FOHS has been leading a broad and meaningful strategic planning processes, re-examining its academic, administrative, and research practices and processes, in order to enact forward-looking strategic changes and improvements, in accordance with the new realities of the 21st century.
As part of this process, we launched 10 interdisciplinary Research Hubs, ushering in a new era of innovative, cross-disciplinary research based on unprecedented integration of the basic sciences and applied research, with the very real possibility of transforming medicine as we know it!
Each Hub has the potential for developing new diagnostic tools, creating new methodologies for improving individual quality-of-life outcomes, unraveling the underlying mechanisms of disease, and providing “patient-to-lab” answers to pressing medical challenges.
Working side by side in partnership with our four affiliated teaching hospitals and with community healthcare providers (HMOs), we strive for excellence in medical education, clinical practice, and innovative research across a broad range of fields.
As we reimagine the Faculty’s future, I invite you to join us as partners in this remarkable journey.
