Mysteryandcreativitymutualybeckoninthefieldofarts.WhenbothblendinaneclecticpersonalitysuchastheoneofLuigiPericle,theresultingrelationshipisso remarkablyproductivetobeabletoinfluenceawholeplace,cityorregion.ThisisthebondarisenbetweenLuigiPericleGiovanneti-painter,cartoonistandeven astrologistandtheist-andAscona-apretygem locatedinthenorthernextremityofLakeMaggiore.Now thistiewilbeproposedinthecontextofVeniceArtBiennale afteroverfiftyyears,asexplainedonocasionofthepresentationeventattheFondazioneMonteVeritàinAsconaonthe4thofApril.
IntheinterwarperiodbetweenWWIandWWIAsconabecamethefocalpointforartists,thinkers,philosophers,esotericistsandecentricmilionaireswhotookpartin luckyculturalcircumstancestypicalinneutralSwitzerlandwhichgotlostinafaintechoaftertheSixties.Yet,thankstotwohotelierspasionateaboutart,atreasurehas emergedfrom thepastjustawhileago:thewholeproductionofpaintingsbyPericle-forgoteninthecelarofahouse.AtthepeakofhissucesPericlewithdrew toa lifeofmeditationandneverappearedpubliclyagain.Instead,asamateroffact,inafew daysthemaster’sartwilbecomingbackforhisadmirersonocasionofthe exhibition“LuigiPericle(1916-2001)_Beyondthevisible”.ThankstotheAsociationestablishedinordertosafeguardandpromotethisunexpecteddiscovery.Theevent
wilbeheldfrom the11thofMaytothe24thofNovember2019attheFondazioneQueriniStampaliainVenice.
“Rescuedfrom oblivion,todayLuigiPericleistheaim ofanextensiveprojectofwhichobjective,acriticalandphilologicalrecoveryofhiswork-asexplainedbyAndrea Biasca-Caroni,PresidentoftheAsociationArchivioLuigiPericle-andthisexhibitionisseenasthefirststepofadetailedpath.AscientificcataloguepublishedbySilvana Editorialewilleadviewersthroughanexhibitof50works,includingpaintingsoncanvasandmasonite,Indianinkdrawingsonpaperfrom theSixtiesandSeventies;the fruitofatirelesinvestigationintothelanguageofpaintingandintothedeepestfoldsofourconsciousnes”.LuigiPericle(Basel1916-Ascona2001),consideredas“a protagonistofEuropeanpaintingofthesecondhalfofthetwentiethcentury”,wasofItalianorigins(Monterubbiano,Marche)andwasaclaimedbythemostrenowned namesoftheartisticpanorama:from thecolectorPeterG.StaechelintothetrusteeoftheTateGalery.SirHerbertRead,themuseologistandcuratoroftheYorkArt Galery,HansHes,andtheownersoftheArthurTooth&SonsartgaleryinLondon,wherehisworkswereexhibitedalongwithAppel,Jorn,Tàpies,Dubufet,and Mathieu.
Giventheexpositionofaboutfiftymeaningfulartworksandsomeselecteddocuments-revealingtheartist’smultipleinterests-theexhibitionitineraryaspirestoretracein chronologicalorderthediferentmomentsofLuigiPericle’saestheticresearch”,commentsChiaraGati,oneofthecurators.“ThecurentstudiesonLuigiPericle’swork aimstodemonstratehow theosophicaldoctrinesandaltheothersubjectshaven'tplayedasecondaryroleifcomparedtofigurativeart.Theimpulsetounderstandand analyzethemysteriesofexistence,thevariationsandvibrationsofthesoul,astheyaredefinedacordingtomystic-theosophicalconceptions,haven'tananthropological value.AcordingtoPericle’sspeculations,thisexpresesanabsolutecertainty:themysticoriginoftheworkofart”.Yet,Pericleunexpectedlywithdrew totheanarchic heavenofMonteVerità,thewel-known‘hilofutopia’isolatedinthewoodlandofCantonofTicinoaboveAscona,wherehehadsetledwithhiswifeOrsolinaKlainguti sincetheFifties.Thisperiodwascharacterizedbyisolationandahugeproductivitynotonlyintermsofartcreation,butalsointhefieldsofliterature,astrology,philosophy andtheosophy.

Infact,inadditiontothehundredsofpaintingsfoundbyGretaandAndreaBiasca-Caronithereisalsoanovel,horoscopes,ufologyesays,notebooksrichwithJapanese ideograms,cosmicsymbolsandhomeopathicrecipes.AlthoughPericledecidedtonotexhibithisart,heachievedgreatsuceswithhiscomicstripof‘MaxtheMarmot’, stilrequestedinNew YorkandJapan.However,since1980hehadstoppedpaintingandhadretiredtoprivatelifeuntiltheendofhisdays.Asortofdefinitiveseparation from theworldinordertoretracehisstepsofspiritualityhehadexaminedduringhiswholelife:“Theesentialisnotwhatcomesfrom theartist-helovedtosay-but throughtheartist”.
