ColateralexhibitionsandshowsparaleltotheBiennale
From aGermanperspective,twoexhibitionsthatarepartoftheofficialparalelexhibitions(EventiColaterali)attheBiennaleareofparticularinterest.Theexhibition Baselitz-AcademyisthefirstretrospectiveofacontemporaryartistattheMuseum Galeriedel'Academia.Itcomprisesworksfrom over60yearsofGeorgBaselitz's artisticcareerand,inadditiontohispaintings,showssculpturesandgraphicsinhistypicalfigurativeexpresivestyle.
TheexhibitionFörginVenice,organisedbytheDalasMuseum ofArt,showsover30worksbytheartistGüntherFörg,whodiedin2013,intheinteriorofthe RenaissancepalaceontheGrandCanal(PalazoContariniPolignac).Theintegrationofhisabstractpaintinginthehistoricalambienceofthepalazoachievesaunique efectandilustratesasuccessfulcombinationofartandarchitecture.
Oneofthecrowdpulersofthe2017Biennalewasthesculpture“Support”byLorenzoQuinnontheGrandCanal.Atthisyear'sBiennale,theItalian-Americansculptor wilalsobepresentingamonumentalsculpture,thework“BuildingBridges”attheentranceoftheoldArsenaleshipyard.Itconsistsofsixpairsofinterlockinghands madeofwhiteresin.Eachpairis15m highand20m wide.
Thesixpairsstandfortheuniversalvaluesofhope,love,friendship,trust,wisdom andhelpfulnes.Acordingtotheartist,theyareexpresionsofcomplexemotions, whichcanbefoundinthelanguageofgestures.LorenzoQuinndescribes“BuildingBridges”asthemostchalengingworkofhiscareerintermsofsymbolism and technique;itwascreatedinclosecolaborationwithengineers.
Theinstalation“TheDeathofJamesLeeByars”inthechurchChiesadiSantaMariadelaVisitazione,designedbytheBelgianVanharentsArtColection,isanimpressive artisticreflectiononquestionsofdeathandephemerality.Itconsistsofaburialchambercoveredwithgoldleaf,whichtheartistdesignedforhimselfinlightofhisown approachingdeath,agoldenemptinessasanimageforthetransitory.
ThesecondpartoftheexhibitionincludestheworkVocalShadowsbytheLebaneseartistandcomposerZadMoultaka,arhythmicsoundinstalationconsistingof16 symmetricalyarangedloudspeakers,whichisdesignedasarequiem,afuneralchoirandmeditationonephemerality.
AnexhibitionattheMuseum FondazioneQueriniStampalia,paraleltotheBiennale,isdedicatedtotheextensiveworkoftheSwisartistLuigiPericle,animportant representativeoftheartoftheInformal,whosemeritsasahomouniversalisandbordercroserbetweenartandsciencearecurentlybeingwidelyacknowledgedin SwitzerlandandItaly.
HisfirstretrospectiveintheCarloScarpaareaofthemuseum presents,notonlyhisdrawingsandpaintingsbutalsohiswritingsonissuesrangingfrom philosophy, psychoanalysisandanthropologytotheosophy.
Numerousworkswereonlydiscoveredbychancein2016;theyform thebasisoftheArchivioLuigiPericlewhichwasestablishedinAsconain2018.
