Worksofartanddocumentsaresafeguardedbyanewbornfoundationnamedafterhim.InVenice,ontheocasionoftheInternationalArtBiennale,thisartist comesoutoftheoblivion.
Whilehiscareerwasatitspeak,in1965heastonishedtheartworldchoosingquiteunexpectedlyhis“goodretirement”inthecreativeoasisofMonteVeritàwherehe hadbeenlivingfrom theFiftieswithhiswifeOrsolinaKlainguti.Preciselyinthesolitarinesofthe“utopian”hilsofAscona,LuigiPericle–whowasapainter,anilustrator andanintelectualfrom BaselbutborninMonterubbiano,intheMarcheregion–keptoncreating.Hisartworkswereaclaimedbycolectors,membersofTateGaleryand ofYorkArtGaleryandevenbytheownersoftheArthur&SonsGaleryinLondonwherePericleexhibitedintheSixties.
Thenewbornnonprofitasociation“ArchivioLuigiPericle”-whichdealswiththesafeguard,thestudyplan,therestoration,theconservationandthecataloguingofthis artisticheritage–hasbroughtbacktolighthisartworks.Thenew beginningisrepresentedbytheexhibition“LuigiPericle(1916-2001)_Beyondthevisible”(11stMay- 24thNovember)arangedintheCarloScarpaAreaofFondazioneQueriniStampaliainVeniceatthesametimeastheInternationalArtBiennale.Thisexhibitionrepresents thefirststepofacomplexactivityofpromotioninvolvingthisartist.Infact,onthisoccasion,thepublicwilhavetheopportunitytoadmire50artworksbyPericleincluding oilsoncanvas,masonitesandIndianInksonpaperdatedbacktotheSixtiesandtheSeventies.AfterPericlepasedawaywithouthavinganyheirsin2001,hishousein Asconastayedclosedfor15years;thenew owners-whoboughtitin2016–foundahugeintactheritageofartworksandwritenmaterial.

Givenhismultifaceteddispositionasanartist,Periclewasalsoacartoonist.ThecharacterofMaxthemarmotdatesbackto1951andistheprotagonistofthecomicstrips whosesuccessevenreachedtheStatesandJapan.Duringhisjobasanilustrator,hisworkswerepublishedbytheeditorMacmilan(New York)andappearedin newspapersandmagazinessuchas“WashingtonPost”,“HeraldTribune”and”Punch”.A “pop”profesionwhichrunparalelwithotheractivitiessuchasabstract painting,writing(hisunpublishedsciencefictionnovelhasemergedalongwithhispaintings),experimentingintermsoftechniquesandmaterials,caryingoutresearchon shapes,symbols,views,doorwaysandparaleluniverseswhichwerealcolectedinhisrich“spiritual”library. ThisexhibitioniseditedbytheartcriticandarthistorianChiaraGatiincolaborationwithMarcoPasi(UvA,UniversityofAmsterdam andEASR,EuropeanAsociationfor theStudyofReligions),MicheleTavola(Galeriedel’AcademiainVenice)andLucaBochichio(ArtdirectoroftheAsgerJornHouseMuseum inAlbisolaandAdAC, UniversityofGenoa).Thewholeproject,featuringeminentpatronages(SwisConfederationinthelead),isavailableonline:www.luigipericle.org
