Someofyou,dearreaders,wilprobablyrememberthenameofthepainterLuigiPericleGiovanneti.Twoyearsagothesepagesannouncedtheimportantfindingofthe artist’sarchivalmaterialinAsconawhichincludedhundredsofpaintingsanddrawings.It’sbeenalongtimesincethen.InthisperiodtheincrediblestoryofLuigiPericleis concretelyspreadingacrosEuroperesembling,onepieceatthetime,theimageofanextremelypeculiarpainterwholivedandworkedinthesecondhalfof1900s.He wasmuchappreciatedandcherishedbythemosteminentpersonalitiesoftheartworld.LuigiPericlewasborninBaselin1916(hismotherwasFrenchandhisfather camefrom theItalianregionofMarche)andpasedawayinAsconain2001withoutleavinganyheirs.HewassupportedbytheBaselcolectorPeterG.Staechelin(whose c o l le c tio n b o a s te d m a s te rp ie c e s b y V a n G o g h , M o n e t, C é z a n n e , P ic a s s o a n d M a n e t), H e rb e rt R e a d (E n g lis h p o e t, a rt h is to ria n a n d lite ra ry c ritic ) a n d H a n s H e s s (museologistandcuratoroftheYorkArtGalery).Inaddition,asifthesedetailsweren'talreadysufficient,LuigiPericleusedtoexhibithisworkinimportantinternational artgaleriesinSwitzerlandandEnglandalongwithKarelAppel,AsgerJohn,AntoniTàpies,JeanDubufetandGeorgeMathieu.
Hissmartcareerstoppedin1965whentheartist-whohadlivedonMonteVeritàforalongtimewithhiswifeOrsolina-decidedtowithdraw tocompleteprivacybut pursuedpaintingandstudyingonhisown.Todaythispainteristheprotagonistofagreatcriticalandphilologicalrecoverypromotedbythe“ArchivioLuigiPericle”and foundedbyAndreaandGretaBiasca-Caroniwhoare thepresidentandthedirectoroftheAssociationandtheauthorsofthisimportantdiscoverytoo.
