Connected Homes
Another topic that certainly stood out at this year’s SXSW in Texas was Connected Homes with many participants talking about Artificial Intelligence in our homes and interconnected devices — but also security concerns in this space.
One of the examples that got a lot of attention was Sony’s Xperia Touch which turns every surface into a touchscreen. According to Sony, it is meant to be more than just a projector, hoping it will act as a digital hub for families. But have a look at it yourself here: http://engt.co/2q2QWw7

Panasonic, one of Japan’s leading tech companies, used SXSW to assess consumer interest in their new products before launching them — or rather decide if there is enough potential for the products to be launched as none of the devices on display had a price, or planned release date.
Among other home-tech offerings, Panasonic displayed MonStyle, a DIY dry-cleaning machine
for your home, the Ambient Media Player, capable of transforming a TV monitor into tasteful art, and home-ready fermenting machine The Ferment, which comes with ingredient packs delivered monthly.

A unique offering at this year’s SXSW was Kasita (coming from “little house” in Spanish), a fresh take on living spaces. Hidden behind its clean, modern interior, the minimalist 352 square-foot living
space seamlessly integrates a plethora of smart- home technologies, from voice control through Amazon’s Alexa, to Lutron lighting controls and the DoorBird smart doorbell. All of this is conveniently tied together through one custom app, with programmable user ‘moods’ — a ‘wake-up’ mood, for example, could have the windows gradually become more transparent in the morning. The unique concept was started after its founder experimented by spending a year (yes, a year) living in a dumpster.
