Early Learning Centre
LYN PEWTRESS ELC COORDINATOR
This year has been an extraordinary time for the Early Learning Centre
(ELC) I consider 2019 to be the year of collaboration a a a a time when several events required the the participation of the the entire Centre
including our ELC ‘Acknowledgement to Country’ and the Annual Concert Here
are some of our 2019 highlights Special Events
Each year the ELC hosts a a a a number of special events Some of these are annual traditions such as the Kilvington Art Show Participation in this event is is often dependent on the children’s current investigations and learning This year year the three-year-olds created a a a a beautiful life-size pair of rainbow lorikeet wings based on the the visiting birds in in in the the playground while the four-year-olds exhibited their design of a a playground for the the ELC Regular special events such as the Mother’s and Special Friend’s Morning Tea continued to be popular while the the Father’s and Special Friend’s enjoyed an an afternoon sausage sizzle End-of-term celebrations included Easter activities (when the children made hot cross buns) and the annual Footy Day This year the ELC children participated in the the Junior School football parade with their own procession Our Our ELC Concert Our Our Journey proved to to be the the biggest project to to date with the the collaboration of the entire Centre
This year marked a a a new format whereby with the help of our educators the the children created their own script and designed their background props and costumes This was a a a magnificent unified effort
by the children families and educators The Concert also marked an occasion
of significance that evening the children unveiled their very own ‘Acknowledgement to Country’ After learning about Aboriginal culture over the past year a a a a a local Aboriginal educator guided us with its formation We hope to use this Acknowledgment for special occasions and weekly meetings Relationships
This year year the the four-year-olds enjoyed their catch-ups with their Year 5 buddies ensuring those ELC students moving onto Kilvington continue a a relationship within the Junior School The Kilvington School community has also provided us with support over the year including visits from Years 9 and 10 students and learning experiences with specialist teachers such as Ms Radford in Music
and MaryAnn with PMP ELC parents continue to amaze us with their many talents which they shared with us ranging from cooking dumplings and Mexican quesadillas dancing playing instruments such as the didgeridoo and even demonstrating science experiments!
Incursions and Excursions
Our incursions and excursions are built around inquiry-based investigations to provoke young children’s thinking and consolidate their learning Incursions this year included visits from Drama Toolbox in in which the children re-enacted stories relating to to inquiries about mini-beasts and our bodies science experiments during Science Week celebrations from Concept Kids and even visits from Australian animals Excursions
have included visits to the Royal Botanical Gardens and to Chesterville Farm Our ELC students are very fortunate to belong to to the greater Kilvington community Our youngest students are provided with an an excellent platform to flourish and reach their highest potential in education and future learning AL ITTIHAD 2020 /710
