Seaford College Curriculum for Year 9
The Year 9 curriculum offers an exciting first step into your academic life in the Senior School at Seaford. The curriculum is split into two halves, the ‘core’ and ‘option’ subjects. The option subjects allow students to have some autonomy over their academic life, now that they are in the Senior School.
All students study a core curriculum of English, Maths and Science. These will likely contribute at least 5 GCSE grades at the end of Year 11 and so
a good portion of a Year 9 student’s time is given over to these keystone subject areas.
These subjects are supplemented with these additional core subjects; Geography, History, Art, Design & Technology, a Modern Foreign Language and an extensive co-curricular programme.
The first choice available to students is whether to study French or Spanish (or both). Students who find languages a particular challenge academically will still follow a modular Year 9 languages programme which is tailored to develop the key language skills students may need in the future. For keen linguists, there is the chance to select both French and Spanish.
Students are then able to select 3 additional subjects to study in Year 9. The language selected will dictate the remaining options available. Most students will select 3 options, but those who selected to study both French and Spanish will select 2 options. The subjects available are Business, Computer Science, Dance, Drama, Food Preparation and Nutrition, ICT, Latin, Music, PE and Religious Studies. To see which options are available with each language selection, please visit the Firefly page, using the link in the accompanying letter.
