 Boarding at Seaford
  Freddie Valmas
When did you start boarding?
I started to board weekly towards the end of Year 11.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing your generation?
Buying a house. How can you be expected to afford your first home these days? I have friends in their 30s who are living with a group of friends as even earning a good salary, they still can’t afford to buy a place.
Tell us about the pastoral support at Seaford.
Mr Green gave us a lot of encouragement to achieve our GCSE results. I like being able to talk to any of my teachers about work or other things, it is massively helpful. An informal chat with them can help with the smallest thing, it’s nice not to have to go to the Pink House because all members of staff believe in giving pastoral support. I haven’t actually used the Pink House, I’ve been with friends who needed to go and as a Peer Mentor.

Tell us about boarding
I used to be a full boarder in Year 9, I was a flexi in Year 3. I have always enjoyed being a boarder and I loved it more here than at my last school. I love the fact that you meet girls from different year groups. My sister is in Year 11 and boards. We all have lots of fun in the house. We can use all the facilities like the swimming pool.
Do you have a role model?
I look up to my mother as she’s very strong mentally, she’s in the Navy. She’s resilient and has hidden depths. I admire her strong work ethic. She has taught me how to deal with my emotions. If I’m having a bad day, I just take a deep breath and carry on. She’s proud of my achievements to date.
