What made you choose Seaford?
When I met Mr Green I thought he was amazing. He has a great persona. He sets the tone and culture at Seaford. He takes the time to watch sports matches. I came to Seaford for the sport, the facilities and the grounds. The Johnson Centre facilities are incredible and the new Sixth Form Centre is really smart.
What do you get out of being in the 1st team for rugby?
Did you always know you’d be in the 1st?
I aspired to be in the 1st team, it was my main goal and I achieved it. I had to work at it. It’s a great team, no individuals in it. It helped with making friends and you mix with the year above you.
Outside of school I play rugby for Sussex and Chichester. My major dream would be to play for England. However, who knows whether I can get there or not. I need something to fall back on if I don’t make it, hence the need for academic subjects. I practise outside of school two or three times a week and a couple of times a week at school; training and fitness sessions, so there is a lot to fit in!
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing your generation?
Us, people. We’re becoming very judgemental; self-centred. Society as a whole is hooked on technology and there’s a tendency for people to be unaware of what is going on around us. The older generation (like my parents) are wiser and they see what is happening to the planet, the oceans and pollution and they are encouraging us to get back to where we want to be. Grandparents have been around the longest so we should listen to what they have to say.
Has social media made everyone self-centred?
Yes and no. Social media is an amazing thing, but it’s the way we use it that make all the difference.
How do you relax?
I like having a laugh with friends. Boarding is bit like having a sleep over with your friends. A well planned and structured sleep over!
What do you do for Purple time?
I like going to the gym in the Johnson Centre, it’s a fantastic facility to have. I board so I also use it in the evenings.
“Opportunities in the Sixth Form are plentiful, plays and musicals are huge, and there are a whole host of other sports all year round, and countless activities to do in Purple Time. And this all links back to freedom and choice, if you don’t want to do loads of activities, you don’t have to, but they are there if you do, I think that really is amazing.” James Anderson
