Overview
Design engineering involves design, creativity and investigation into ways to improve the efficiency of existing products. The job requires design and technical skills and appeals to creative people with a good eye for detail. It suits individuals who enjoy art, design, maths, science and design and technology.
 Expectations
Students are expected to work well, both independently and as part of a team, thinking creatively to solve problems from set design briefs. Students should have a good work ethic, manage deadlines and be prepared to spend extra time within the department developing new skills..
Future Pathway
Industries include: construction and building services; electronics and consumer goods; transport, such as shipbuilding, aerospace, railways and motor vehicles, and power generation research and development.
