Your Mock Examinations
Dear Year 11,
Your mock examinations will start on Monday, 6th January and run for a period of
12 days until Tuesday, 21st January 2025. This is a full run-through where each of
you will sit examinations for all of your subjects in preparation for your GCSEs in
May and June this year.
Your preparation for these mock examinations needs to mirror what will happen
for examinations in the summer, or as close to it as possible. Since the start of
Year 10, in Personal Development time, we have run our examination preparation
programmes on topics including: study skills; time management; handling stress;
and revision strategies.
You will start the process of creating a revision planner with your tutor for the
Christmas holiday. All subjects will have provided ample revision material in
the form of checklists, revision packs and past papers, which will also be on
Firefly/OneNote, so you should have everything you will need in order to prepare
effectively over the holidays.
The mock examination timetable is enclosed within this booklet, along with some
of the revision strategies, an examination kit list, and a copy of the examination
hall code of conduct. This booklet will also be shared with your parents and they
will be actively encouraged to go through it all with you.
It is natural for people to feel nervous going into the examination hall and it is
important to realise that some of you will require a little bit of extra support.
Needless to say, your tutors, teachers and houseparents are all on hand, as am I
as your Head of Year. The No 46 team is also available and work closely with me
and all of you in Year 11 throughout the examination period in particular. We will
help to ensure that each of you can achieve your personal bests. Support at home
is just as vital as the support in school so speak openly with your parents if you
are struggling – a problem shared is a problem halved.
Now it is time for action stations! This first experience of the GCSE examination
hall in Year 11 is a vital opportunity for getting into the swing of your
examinations. Remember - try not to stress. Do your best. Forget the rest.
We’re all here alongside you and we wish you all the best!
Mrs Cullen
Head of Year 11
