Planning an Effective Revision Programme
All successful revision plans have been worked out in advance and
committed to. In order to commit to a revision plan, it needs to be
realistic, thorough and organised. All subjects, whether you like them
or not, need to have equal share of the time available in the revision
programme to ensure all of your revision list is covered. Rest,
relaxation and commitments should be included in the planned
schedule because they are a crucial part of the process.
You will have had a one-to-one discussion with your tutor before
Christmas and outlined your revision programme for the Christmas
holidays. Many of you have taken advantage of structuring your time
during the week, filling in the supervised prep sessions with specific
subject revision or coursework targets, and so are already following a
revision routine. If this is repeated over the holidays, you will be in a
positive position in January when you enter the examination hall.
Get yourself organised before you leave for the Christmas holidays.
Many of you have taken the initiative of talking to your form tutors,
learning support teachers, class teachers and boarding tutors already.
The most effective form of revision requires you to be engaged actively.
This is not something that you can do by just staring at a screen or
reading from a textbook. You need to be creating posters, cue cards,
mind-maps, or testing yourself with past papers, quizzes or
examination questions. Too much screen-time will be detrimental to
your focus and will ultimately be wasted time, which is all too precious
at this stage of the year. Put your phone/tablet/laptop in another
room while you are revising to remove any distractions. Focus on
your work and what you need to know for each subject.
You cannot leave all your revision until the week
before your mocks begin. Start now to take the
pressure off. In our PD sessions, we will also
provide some outside speakers and education about
nutrition, revision skills, welfare, and other
pertinent topics in supporting you through this
important year.
