 Religious Studies

Summary of Programme for Year 9:
Religious Studies is divided into three subject areas: Philosophy, Ethics and the study of World Religions, currently Judaism and Christianity. Philosophy includes classical arguments for and against the existence of God; the Cosmological and Teleological Arguments; Aquinas, Aristotle, William Paley and Charles
Darwin; the relationship between Science and Religion. Ethics
spans Utilitarianism, Natural Law and Situation Ethics (including contemporary ethical issues such as war and peace, pacifism, capital punishment); Kantian ethics and the moral teachings of Jesus.
In World Religions we look at the history and development of Christianity and Judaism.
Does the Year 9 course include any elements of the GCSE?
Some of the content is introduced in Year 9, as a taster of Philosophy and Ethics, but the course does not start until Year 10.
Science

Summary of Programme for Year 9:
In Year 9, students all start the GCSE Science courses, taught separately as Biology, Chemistry and Physics by either two or three specialist teachers. The focus is on some of the fundamental concepts required throughout Year 10 and
11. This will lead to students either continuing the Triple Science route or choosing Combined Science. This will be decided on towards the end of Year 9. The course comprises a mixture of theoretical, practical and analytical work.
Does the Year 9 course include any elements of the GCSE?
We will be starting on the full GCSE course in order to cover key concepts.
