Creative Arts
This term has been an exciting and busy time in the Creative Arts Department. Students across all
year groups have engaged enthusiastically with the curriculum, while exam year groups have begun
new topics in preparation for their end-of-course tests.
Our talented students have shown remarkable
dedication throughout the term, working in a
variety of artistic media. Senior students continue
to impress with their commitment to their studies
and their beautiful creations, which inspire younger
students. Their work is showcased in the gallery,
classroom displays and display cases throughout the
department.
Easter display in our bespoke gallery. They created
paper hanging eggs and explored patterns and
stamps to decorate them. The display features a
brightly coloured cross constructed from individually
decorated wooden sticks, sparking discussions
about the meaning of Easter.
We have also enhanced our facilities by adding
new kilns, tufting equipment and fabric printing
resources. These additions provide students with
opportunities to explore creative areas they have not
experienced before.
Art Scholars
This term, we have focused on developing our Art
scholars’ abilities to explore new ways of expressing
their ideas and pushing the boundaries of their
creativity. The scholarship programme has brought
a breadth of artistic experiences, with students
extending their work beyond the normal curriculum.
Driven by a desire to try new things, our art scholars
have grown as artists through the use of mood
boards, large canvases, mixed media techniques and
block printing.
Outside of the weekly scholarship clubs, Year 7 and 8
scholars participated in a workshop with local artist
‘Paisley & Co’, where they produced ceramic surface
pattern responses using underglaze decoration
techniques. Year 9 scholarship students engaged in
a bespoke drawing masterclass, focusing on shadow
and form through impressive large-scale drawings.
